Overview
Masjid al-Jumu’ah lies a short distance north of Masjid Quba, in the valley of Ranuna, in the area of the Banu Salim ibn Awf.
History
According to the sirah (biography) sources, when the Prophet ﷺ left Quba for the centre of Madinah during the Hijrah, the time of Friday prayer came while he was among the Banu Salim ibn Awf, and he led the Jumu’ah prayer there with a sermon — reported as the first Jumu’ah he led. A mosque was later built at the spot and has been rebuilt several times, most recently in the modern period.
