Overview
Jabal al-Nour (“Mountain of Light”) is a steep mountain in the north-east of Makkah. Near its summit is the Cave of Hira, where the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ.
Significance
The mountain takes its name from the light of revelation that began there. It is a historical site, not a place of required ritual โ climbing it is not part of Umrah or Hajj.
Hira Cultural District
At the foot of the mountain, the Hira Cultural District includes the Revelation Exhibition, which presents the story of the revelation and the Qur’an through modern exhibits, together with visitor facilities.

Visiting information
The climb is steep and takes most people roughly an hour or more each way; wear good shoes, carry water and avoid the midday heat. The Revelation Exhibition at the Hira Cultural District has its own opening hours and tickets โ check the official website before visiting.
