Overview
The Rawdah is the area inside Masjid an-Nabawi between the Prophet’s ﷺ house (now the chamber containing his grave) and his minbar. It is marked by green-and-white carpets and decorated pillars.
Significance
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Between my house and my minbar is a garden from the gardens of Paradise, and my minbar is over my Lake-Fount” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1196; see also 1195). Worshippers seek to pray and make du’a there.
Historic pillars
Several pillars in the Rawdah carry names associated with events in the Prophet’s ﷺ life — such as the pillar of Aishah and the pillar of Abu Lubabah (the pillar of repentance). These names are recorded in the historical literature of Madinah.
