Overview
Bir Aris was a well in a garden close to Masjid Quba. It is also called “Bir al-Khatam” — the Well of the Ring.
History
Sahih al-Bukhari records that the Prophet ﷺ had a silver ring engraved “Muhammad Rasul Allah”, which after him was worn by Abu Bakr, then Umar, then Uthman, until it fell from Uthman’s hand into the well of Aris (Sahih al-Bukhari 5873). Historical sources state that the well was searched thoroughly but the ring was never found.
Today
The well itself no longer exists as a visible structure; its location near Masjid Quba is identified in historical works and in the area’s modern development.
