Overview

Qarn al-Manazil is the Miqat — the boundary for entering Ihram — on the Taif side of Makkah. Its main mosque is at As-Sayl al-Kabir, about 80 km north-east of Makkah and about 35 km north of Taif.

Significance

Ibn Abbas (RA) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ fixed Dhul-Hulayfah for the people of Madinah, al-Juhfah for Sham, Qarn al-Manazil for Najd and Yalamlam for Yemen, and these are also for anyone passing them intending Hajj or Umrah (Sahih al-Bukhari 1524).

Wadi Muharram

Because the name Qarn al-Manazil covers the whole valley, the mosque at Wadi Muharram in Al-Hada, about 10–15 km north-west of Taif on the mountain road, is also used as the “upper” Miqat of the same valley.

Visiting information

The Miqat mosque has washrooms and areas for Ghusl and changing into Ihram. If you are in Taif and going to Makkah for Umrah, enter Ihram here (or at Wadi Muharram on the Al-Hada road) before passing the Miqat.
